Mr. Miller’s attempted justification of the U-Pass was the saddest yet in a sad line of ill-fated efforts. His suggestion that those who live too far from the city centre to benefit from public transportation should completely reorganize their lives and relocate near a C-Train station just so they can justify being forced to purchase a U-Pass is insulting.
Don’t get me wrong, if I could force students to pay for my transportation I would. I just wish people would tell it like it is. The U-Pass is not an enlightened attempt to guide non-users towards a life of happiness and simplicity. It is a successful attempt to force one group of students to subsidize another group of student’s transportation costs. Period.
