The Trans Canada highway goes down 16th Ave. N.W., right past SAIT, residential areas, and numerous commercial business which is a less than ideal area for a major highway to run through. The development on either side of the Trans Canada means there is no room for expansion and semi-trucks are forced to drive right through Calgary rather than go around.
The provincial government acknowledged this problem and wants to divert the Trans Canada around the city rather than right through it. Hence, a “ring road.”
The proposed Ring Road runs through the Siksika Reserve and the provincial government can’t seem to finalize a contract with Siksika Nation leaders.
