Veruca Salt are finally back, and it’s too bad they are.
Their latest release, Resolver, is a departure from their earlier bubbly pop songs. The new songs have more of an edge; the band rocks out more on these tracks.
The change may be because of the exit of Nina Gordon, who was a primary songwriter on the last album. Gordon’s pop sensibility is missing here and all that’s left is singer Louise Post’s shrill, screaming vocals which reduce the songs to annoying noise.
The tracks are largely indistinguishable from one another; every song has the same, "I wish I was a rock star" feel.
The pictures in the sleeve of Post with blonde grungy hair and her new found singing style are oddly reminiscent of
Courtney Love, which will leave previous Salt fans wondering what’s going on.
