Queens of the Stone Age were born out of the death of Kyuss, one of metal’s best underground bands. What’s most refreshing about Queens is their lack of pretension. Founder and guitarist Joahua Homme seems to view the band as a vehicle for making music, not a medium to force his personal neurosis and sappiness on the listener.
Instead, we get humorous songs like "Feel Good Hit of the Summer," which lists various drugs over and over, and "Monsters in the Parasol" with the refrain, "I’ve seen some things I never saw before, covered in hair." Queens may disappoint those looking for the intensity of Kyuss, but the rest of us finally get a rock record that’s fun to listen to.
