Hopefully Objects… — Confrontation Camp

By Shawn Hoult

For almost two decades, the name Chuck D has been associated with intelligent political commentary and innovative music. Those days are now over. By combining with former Public Enemy bandmate Professor Griff and Kyle Ice Jason to create Confrontation Camp, Chuck D sold his soul to the devil we know as rap-metal.

Although it is true that even this overhyped hyphenated genre does have its share of important and innovative bands, Confrontation Camp is not one of them. Through a combination of juvenile lyrics and a painfully limited back-up band, Confrontation Camp manages to create a collection of tracks that greatly resemble WWF theme music. Hopefully Objects… is the low point of Chuck D’s otherwise stalwart career, although if he does want to sink lower, a Backstreet Boys duet album could be mighty amusing.
