Call the SPCA! A group of sled dogs were abused at Father David Bauer Arena last weekend.
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies came into Calgary sporting a 8-4-2 record and a number five ranking nationally–reason enough to be cocky. But the Dogs whimpered all the way back to their flatland home after the Dinos handed them 4-3 and 3-2 losses on Friday and Saturday respectively.
Ken McKay was the chief instigator of abuse over the two games and was recognized as the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Player of the Week for his efforts. McKay amassed a weekend high five points including both the game tying and winning goals during Saturday’s come-from-behind victory.
The Dinos now sit with a record of 10-5-1 on the season and are a mere six points behind the Alberta Golden Bears. The team travels to Vancouver next weekend where they will take on the conference doormat University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. The Birds are coming off a good weekend by their standards–they held Guba to a lean six goals over their two game series–and will no doubt be looking to carry over their momentum.
