Starsailor

By Natalie Sit

There must be something about the UK that creates a melancholy influence over its music exports. Like Coldplay, Radiohead and Travis, Starsailor also paints a grey portrait of life with Love is Here. However, Starsailor creates a richer musical tapestry by using the piano. Its music is driven not by guitars but by piano and percussion-a nice change from the resurgence of rock bands. But beware of lead singer James Walsh’s voice. While it grows on you eventually, his first notes may drive you away.

But stay. Even though the rocking tunes never reach that blissful state of happiness, there’s more than enough colour among Starsailor’s shades of grey.
