The President’s Choice Award for Research and Creative Activity Excellence was awarded to four University of Calgary academics on Tues. June 18, 2002. Recipients were recognised for contributions of extraordinary theoretical, empirical or practical discoveries in their fields.
"These researchers exemplify the pursuit of quality that is so central to the university’s academic plan," said U of C President Harvey Weingarten.
Recipient Dr. Roderick McGillis from the Faculty of Humanities has taught literature at the U of C since 1973. Dr. Sun Kwok from the Faculty of Science received the award for studies of stellar evolution. Dr. Edward Silver from the Haskayne School of Busines was recognised for his work in operations management processes and systems. Dr. Walter Herzog from the Faculty of Kinesiology researches the human muscular and skeletal system which may be beneficial in the prevention and detection of osteoarthritis.
