Avail, Front Porch Stories

By Josh LaVoie

I’m a firm believer that intelligent music fans out there want their favourite bands to diversify and that this desire intensifies the longer the band has been around. With ten years of experience it’s about time for Avail to try something new.

Front Porch Stories represents another dose of the jagged, semi-melodic punk-rock displayed on their last album, Over the James. In spite of this shortcoming, this album comes through with clean melodic anthems like the album’s opener “Black and Red,” as well as some aggressive, almost hardcore tracks like “You.” With Front Porch Stories, Avail puts out another good album that could be incredible if they’d just mess with the program a bit.
