3 Doors Down, Away From the Sun

By Nicole Riva

Much like their debut, The Better Life, the latest release from 3 Doors Down is a simple and solid rock album. It’s full of hooks and catchy lyrics that tell simple stories of anger, melancholy, and plenty of bitterness. The songs are good enough, keeping within the safe and small range of a rock song, and a rock ballad. Away From the Sun is not going to revolutionize rock music and it only slightly stands out from the rest of mainstream rock. This makes for pleasant enough listening right now, but once the radio has had this album for a couple of months, the overplay is going to kill it. The first single “When I’m Gone” is already well on its way to the overplay hall of fame, and this CD is radio friendly enough that the overkill will not stop anytime soon.
