Adam Green, Garfield

By Kevin Olsen

Adam Green is not your typical 21-year-old Satan-worshiping math whiz (a Microsoft-spellchecker just told me to capitalize the word Satan). He is also one sixth of the legendary New York band “The Moldy Peaches” and one half of a songsmith.

In his latest solo effort, Garfield, Green picks up his acoustic guitar to create an album rich with hook-filled slacker-folk gems. Though his curious sense of melody may take some time to get your head around, this is smart music. He finished a successful tour with “The Strokes” in late November 2002, and has released a video for the track “Dance With Me” directed by Galen Pherson. Sometimes funny, sometimes troubling, often hopeful, Adam Green’s Garfield is a quick slice of folk genius.
