Has anyone noticed that vocalists from Brit bands all sound the same? Like many bands hailing from jolly old England you can identify The Music’s point of origin as soon as the first words are sung.
However, any predictability contained in this self-titled album stops at the British signature of the vocals. The Music has produced a progressive record by using combinations from an eclectic array of sounds. Compositionally, the album seems modern, the result of guitar loops, layered repeated parts, and interludes of electronic manipulation. The tracks range from slower and more stirring to exceptionally driving and energetic, although it is difficult to find a track that keeps the same pace throughout.
The Music has all the verve of a debut album with the musical refinement you would expect from a third or fourth release.
