E-mail worm not from Microsoft

By GNS

A new e-mail worm contained in messages falsely claiming to be from support@microsoft.com hit the Internet and U of C this weekend.

W32.Sobig.B@mm spreads by mailing itself to any e-mail addresses it finds on infected computers, and through local area networks. The virus only affects computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems and is set to deactivate on May 31.

Students and others with U of C IT passwords can download antivirus software and instructions to remove the virus at: http://www.ucalgary.ca/it/virus/
