Re: “Experts decry virus course,” May 29, 2003

I am deeply concerned about the position that the University of Calgary has taken in its academic curriculum by offering courses in “How to write computer viruses.” Having spent the past 30 years of my career dealing with fraud related issues–including computer viruses–it is my opinion that these kind of actions on the part of the university are morally irresponsible and reprehensible as they relate to corporate and national security. The moral equivalent of this type of behaviour would be American universities offering courses in “How to build nuclear weapons.”

In short, the University of Calgary should seriously rethink it course offerings for the fall semester.
