Wanna free taxi ride?

By Natalie Sit

Thanks to Molson, one lucky University of Calgary student could get free taxi rides for two semesters.

Molson Breweries thought the beginning of the school year would be a good time to educate students on responsible drinking and promote cabs as an alternative to drinking and driving. 1-888-TAXIGUY program will provide taxi service.

"The responsible use program was launched in 1989," said Corporate Affairs for Molson Manager Nathalie Masse. "We want to be proactive in communicating to students don’t drink and drive. Unfortunately, we still need to hammer down that knowledge."

Sixty-six campuses are participating in the program and there are two winners on each campus. Grand prize is free taxi rides for two semester and second prize is free taxi rides for one semester. The grand prize winner is given the equivalent of $1,000 in taxi chits and there is no expiry date on the prize.

According to Masse, Molson is the sole brewery to provide a tangible tool for responsible drinking. In Calgary, the 1-888-TAXIGUY program received over 300 calls per month.
