To learn about the band, so that I could write an informed EP review, I happened to visit their web site. The first thing I saw was a quote at the bottom of the page stating “like a punk Iron Maiden.” Chuckling to myself, I put the CD in and was a bit surprised to hear what they sounded like.
The thought of considering these guys punk in the first place is laughable, but they aren’t even intense enough to be considered emo. Their sound is pretty standard for a band emerging from England, but they are constantly sounding repetitive, with each song becoming tangled with the next. With their debut EP, they have a long way to go, but Shortcut to Newark’s slightly catchy sound will help them out along the way.
