More kudos

Dino footballers Dan Federkeil, Evan Haney and Jeff Montgomery are going to play for the West team in the second annual Canadian Interuniversity Sport East-West Bowl. The Bowl will be held at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario and is comprised of 2005 CFL draftees and a minimum of three athletes from each CIS university.

While it’s good to see an equal showing by all CIS football teams in this event, it’s really too bad the NFL doesn’t take part as well. It just seems to add to the age-old conception that the CFL is just another stepping stone on the way to the NFL.

Expos

The Montreal Expos have started their final season–again–but I don’t care. I should care since the Expos have had their place in Canadian sports for 45 years, yet ever since the Blue Jays won back-to-back championships the Expos have faded into the background.

Now, when the Calgary Cannons baseball team up and left Calgary to become the Albuquerque Isotopes, I was none too happy. I grew up seeing far more Cannons games than Flames games, enjoying them much more and actually ended up attending the last game they played at Burns Stadium. The Cannons were the closest thing Calgary has ever had to great baseball.
