Women’s Hockey

Talent
Two Dinos ladies placed among the top eight scorers in the Alberta Collegiate
Athletics Conference: Melissa Barcelous and Tara Hammer. Goaltender Tonya Young
was named Most Valuable Player in the ACAC this year, probably helped by her incredible
role in getting the Dinos to the ACAC finals.

Coaching
Head Coach Julie Healy took this team and brought the best out of them when
it was most needed. Après playoffs, Healy expressed her belief that the team
can start off next year on the foot they finished on. Healy’s true challenge will
be bringing that playoff determination to next year’s regular season.

Achievement
For a team that hopes to return to CIS competition the season after next,
a second place finish in the college league certainly makes a statement. They
have improved since being demoted from challenging other universities. As a top
contender where they are now, they are ready to move on to a more fierce pool
of teams. A further improvement next season will have Canada West women’s hockey
shaking in their figure skates.

Overall: B+

Country: India. They were a strong and powerful nation crippled by imperialism.
Only recently have they been crawling back to power on the world stage. They also
have a couple of nukes.
