CJSW in negotiations… still

Another round of negotiations are underway between CJSW and the SU regarding the station’s operating agreement. The major issue slowing the project revolves around the inability of the SU to sign an operating agreement with the station longer than ten years. CJSW has asked for a 25 year agreement. Although both parties say they would like a guarantee that the station will remain on campus in the foreseeable future, the ten-year term of the current operating agreement between the SU and the University of Calgary prevents the SU from making obligations that might outlast their own agreement.

CJSW is waiting to move into new space on the third floor of MacEwan Student Center, but cannot do so until the agreement is settled. Because of cost issues requiring all construction to be conducted concurrently, other projects including the move of NUTV and creation of a new multi-faith center are also on hold until the negotiations are settled, West said. CJSW Station Manager Chad Saunders was unavailable for comment.
