Our Red Deer College Queens travelled south Nov. 19 to face the still winless University of Calgary Dinos for a women-on-women hockey battle. As was expected, brawn reigned over brains once again. Our top ranked ladies brought down the last placed Dinos without breaking a sweat.

After a lackluster first period in which we potted a single goal to take the lead, the Queens waved their scepters in the second. After 40 minutes of play, our ladies were comfortably in front, 5-0.

“I challenge the girls more than that in practice,” Head Coach Rob Weddell explained of the game.

One more notch was added in the third to bring the final tally to 6-0. Contributors included Robyn Labossiere, Jen Pope, Amanda Small, and Megan Patterson. Forward Toni Sutherland added two goals of her own.

“These kinds of games make me wish I still played with men,” Sutherland reminisced, referring to her stretch on the Kings team.

The Queens’ next real challenge will be Thu., Nov. 25 when they host the SAIT Trojans here in Red Deer. The team then travels to Grant MacEwan College to take on the Griffins Fri., Nov. 26. Good luck Queens!
