University of Prudes

I am utterly amazed at the reaction a nude body has had on Calgary. I almost fell down laughing when I read that it was an exotic dancer complaining that her picture was printed in the Gauntlet. Did I misread the article or did Ms. Houston encourage students to “…get the confidence to try new things” as the U of C “…is the place to expand your mind in different ways”?

Holy crap!

It seems exploiting yourself for money to put yourself through university is one thing but God forbid the Gauntlet publish a picture you will not get paid for. I do honestly believe that Ms. Houston is feeling remorse for parading naked through Mac Hall. I would suggest that for her next philosophy paper she try the topic “Why I Am Responsible For My Own Actions”. God knows that she is not the first person to have regrets over something they did at university, but seriously folks… a nude dancer outraged over pictures of her naked body?

The point of this email is not to criticize Ms. Houston or point out the short sightedness of her actions. I just wanted to voice my support for the Gauntlet at a time when you seem to need it. I spent my years at the U of C amazed at the narrow-minded students and staff at this school of higher learning. I am very disappointed that nothing has changed.

I would hope that in the future, a naked body will be less controversial than the dismembered corpse I get to see every night during my evening news. Let’s try and get our priorities straight folks and stop being such self-righteous prudes.

Keep up the good work.
