Report Card: Men’s Basketball

Talent

It could have been worse with Whit Hornsberger out for the season. Surinder “I surrender!” Grewal averaged 19.3 points per game in conference play this season, and was ranked nineth among Canadian Interuniversity Sport stats leaders. The team had other consistent contributors including Chris “long socks” Wright and Josh “feisty” Feist.

Effort

When they lost, they lost by a little. The effort was always there, but sometimes the magic wasn’t happening. Home is where the heart is, and they always played better at home, putting on a good show for the home crowd. They just needed to take the show on the road.

Coaching

Coaches Dan VanHooren and Wayne Thomas are stellar. They are always encouraging of their team and set clear achievable goals.

Achievement

They were booted from Canada West playoffs early by our arch-nemesis, the University of Alberta Golden Bears. We all expected better since they roughed it out at the top of the mountain division all season long with the U of A and University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Overall: B

Singer/Band: Def Leppard. Because despite a band-mate losing a limb, they kept on truckin’. Not that Hornsberger lost a limb, but he did lose use of the limb, if wrists could be considered limbs.
