Spun: Cadeaux

By Latifa Pelletier-Ahmed

“I’m tired of being divided–tired of genres and order.” Cadeaux ironically claims in Fiction and Blues. Stemming from Vancouver, the band is a quintet of two lead female vocals, and three guys who play various instruments. The vocals emphasize harmony, occasional gyrating screams, and various oooohs and aaaahs, with Katie Lapi and Dani Vahon taking turns.

Instrumentally, the guitars are slightly obnoxious and repetitive, but also intricate and good for flailing your body around. The bass is consistent and wonderfully accentuates by the drum beats. In the end Physical City doesn’t quite break the indie-rock mould. Although the CD can sound like one continuous song, the lyrics are sufficiently obscure and poetic to be appreciated by those who seek something different in their music.
