Spun: Louis XIV

By Rachel Betts-Wilmott

On their debut album, The Best Little Secrets Are Kept, Louis XIV play some of the sexiest music around. Full of magical handclaps and fun drum kicks, Secrets is a collection of irreverent songs brimming over with misogynistic lyrics. But not bad misogynistic, just misogynistic enough to lend the album an air of youthful cockiness, which only increases its appeal.

The band’s sound is as wanton and filled with imaginative poppycock as its concept–a young modern boy who is convinced he is the Sun King, Louis XIV of France. Secrets is the first installment of the story of the modern Louis XIV, hopefully it will not be the last.
