Dinos git Whit for one more season

By Sean Nyilassy

Someone has switched on the light at the end of whatever tunnel the University of Calgary Dinos men’s basketball team is in. The astounding Whit Hornsberger has been granted another year of eligibility with Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

The point guard was forced to miss the majority of what would have been his fifth season following an injury in November 2004. Having played just two regular season games, Hornsberger will be eligible to play the complete 2005-2006 basketball season.

The decision was recently reached by a CIS eligibility committee. Dinos Head Coach Dan VanHooren believes Hornsberger will provide excellent leadership and experience, especially after a year on the sidelines as an observer, and welcomed the news.

Over his Dinos career Horns-berger has averaged 15.6 points per conference game, currently the fifth best in U of C’s history. Needless to say, the 23 year-old will be looking forward to outwitting the opposition once again to retain, or perhaps improve on his impressive stats.

Hornsberger joined the Dinos in 2000 and has been an asset ever since. Hopefully next season he will again assist the Dinos to nationals as he did in 2004.
