Fittingly ending the festival, Happy Endings is an intricate and delightful comedy about a Los Angeles group who can’t help but mess everything up. The film follows several interconnecting stories of ruined relationships before they all reach their inevitable, but carefully done happy endings. The movie isn’t very surprising but it’s pulled off with the right mixture of interesting characters, irreverent narration and strong performances its predictability doesn’t matter. The film should also be applauded for its well-rounded portrayal of homosexual relationships and the people within them as real individuals instead of stereotypes. Perhaps Happy Endings’ greatest accomplishment, though, is somehow convincing Lisa Kudrow and Tom Arnold they can act. In fact, the two are arguably the highlights of a solid cast.
