Editor, the Gauntlet,
This is an exhausted subject, and I’ll be the first to admit it. For about a month now, the ongoing debate between pro-life and pro-choice students at the U of C has resulted in some serious verbal vomitage thrown from either side. However, as a fourth year nursing student, I’ve got one more little thing I have to say about the pro-lifer’s graphic, on-campus displays before I can sleep at night.
First, I will throw it on the table that I stand decidedly in the middle of pro-life and pro-choice arguments, and I can respect both. Kudos to those with the sheer ballsiness to speak freely and passionately about what they believe in. Second, a little graphic touch never hurt. However, that being said, the parallels drawn by the pro-life club are enough to make me stop and go “quoi?” Let’s me honest here kids: likening breast cancer to abortion is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Believe me: I’ve learned enough pathophysiology and read enough medical journal articles in my four years to tell you that there is such a weak argument relating one to another.
So my point here is: say what you want and stand up for what you believe in, but get your facts straight before you announce your cause to the world. And then maybe I’ll respect what you have to say.
