U of C president Elizabeth Cannon looks on as the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, former Governor General of Canada and human rights activist, stopped by the university of Calgary to receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on Nov.1. Jean was the 27th Governor General and Commander in Chief of Canada from 2005 to 2010. “Thank you, thank you so much,” she said during the ceremony. “Conferring upon me the degree of Doctor of Laws is such an honour. I am very touched by this gesture because it comes from a world class institution of higher learning that has always strived to implicate the notions of civic responsibility and public good among its students and faculty.”
