A month-old virus hoax has been reborn in e-mail this week.
Messages "warning" recipients to search for and delete a file named "JDBGMGR.EXE" from their computers have circulated to at least one U of C mailing list and copies of the message received at the Gauntlet indicate that several local businesses and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans may have received the hoax as well.
The file is a standard part of Windows which uses it to display Java content from some Web sites.
Readers who have erroneously deleted the file can restore it using instructions at vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99436.htm. Free antivirus software is available to U of C students at www.ucalgary.ca/it/virus.
