In my last two years of making trouble, I have gone from hell-raising to playing with the devil. I have suffered everything from anxiety to a receding hairline. There is one last thing I need to say.
The students here at the University of Calgary should be very pissed off. The Alberta government has screwed students for too long. It’s time we stand up to them and demand immediate change. Our tuition has risen too high, our classes are too large, and our debt loads have become unbearable. We can no longer let them get away with it. Sitting here, frustrated with the fact that my words cannot motivate the Minister of Learning, I think it’s time we take matters into our own hands.
Immediate action is needed. The Minister has avoided student concerns for too long. He has not replied to our requests to meet with him and has literally dodged the President of the SU and myself in the Legislature building. He can’t avoid 200 students though. We need to demand that Ralph Klein and Lyle Oberg change the way students are treated in this province. We will not give up until this issue is dealt with.
On April 6 at 9:30 am, U of C students are heading up to Edmonton to take back the Legislature. We are going to demonstrate and demand immediate action. There will be numerous events around campus leading up to the bus ride to Edmonton. Students will be setting up Tuition City on campus three days prior to leaving. If you can’t make the trip, at least spend a night or two in support of the cause.
I know you feel the Alberta government needs to stop neglecting student needs. Join the campaign, AND GET ON THE BUS to Edmonton. LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!
