On Tue., May 14, Englishword.ca made its debut at the U of C. The University of Victoria brainchild combines resources of the U of C,UVic, and the Universities of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta to create the first online program for English as a Second Language students.

"The idea was to bring together high quality English language education in an online format," said U of C Dean of Continuing Education Dr. Thomas Keenan.

Project Manager Sarah Eaton agreed.

"By bringing together a number of western Canadian universities we could achieve together what no one university could achieve alone."

The pilot program will consist of multiple interactive courses in different aspects of English when it begins in September. Both UVic and the U of C have tested their courses, with U of C’s first course scheduled to end next week. So far, feedback has been positive.
