CJSW funding drive results

CJSW’s funding drive ended on Friday. Although the more than $140,000 pledged falls short of last year’s total of $152,000, Station Manager Chad Saunders is pleased with the results.

“Last year, we were broadcasting at 200 watts. This year, we’re at ten per cent of that licensed wattage, but 90 per cent of the money,” said Saunders.

With reduced air and print coverage due to the Calgary Straight’s demise, Saunders expected a decline in pledges. The total number of pledges declined but each supporter pledged more.

“On Friday at noon, we were at $119,000, then Punk up the Volume brought in $7,000. From 2 to 4 p.m. we got $5,000 and another $10,000 form the Road Pops,” he said.

Saunders appreciated listeners who support the station despite not receiving it.

“Bunte Welle, a German program, has listeners in Sundry who can’t listen at home. Instead, they listened and pledged from their cars.”

Over 1,800 listeners pledged their support this year.
