DAY TRIP: Rothney Astrophysical Observatory

By Natalie Sit

Located 50 clicks southwest of the campus, stands the RAO. The rolling hills of Priddis, Alberta hide the jewel of the astrophysics department, founded in 1972.

Three ‘scopes dwell there: the 16" f20/f5 optical telescope, the Alexander R. Cross (Infrared) telescope and the Baker-Nunn Camera.

RAO also has showers and sleeping facilities for sleepovers. They’re holding an open house Sat., Sept. 6, running from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
