Mike Gordon

By Sara Grawbarger

Mike Gordon’s odd obsession with eggbeaters agrees with his odd style of music. Within the songs on Inside In, country is found flirting with jazz beats and laid-back funk.

The banjo, steel guitar and rhythmic drum sounds complement lyrics that seem to follow a unique view on life despite their periodic nonsensically.

Gordon’s tracks all assert their independence from one another, displaying distinct personalities. They rely on well-assembled musical experiments rather than formulaic songs.

If Rupert, the feline studio mascot, had as much influence in the creation of this album, as Gordon claims, I say kudos to him.
