Hockeysaurs dole out beatings like candy

By Ian Waldbauer

We’re #9, which is better than not being ranked at all to those of you snickering.

After a 5-4 win coupled with a 7-0 romp the following night, the Dinos vaulted to ninth spot in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport top ten rankings, and moved into sole possession of second place in Canada West’s Mountain Division. Led by CIS male Athlete of the Week Adam Loncan and newcomer Ryan Annesley, the team left the shell-shocked University of Regina Cougars to cope with the fact they were beaten like rented mules.

Dinos Head Coach Scott Atkinson was quite pleased with his team’s performance.

"Little things make a big difference," he noted. "On Saturday we were doing all the little things really well, where on Friday I felt the score really flattered them. We were soft on a couple of details, but generally they were very similar games."

Other than Loncan and Annesley, who combined to score 13 points in the two games, a few other Dinos joined in on the scoring circus. Bracken Kearns continued his strong campaign with a pair of goals while Wes Reid, not to be outdone, answered with two goals and two assists of his own.

Now in the midst of a four-game winning streak, the Dinos have predictably walked all over their last two opponents. With the roll they’ve been on, two-week gap before their next game is in nobody’s best interest. Unfortunately, they won’t hit the ice again until Fri., Jan. 30 when they host the University of Manitoba Bisons.

Nobody has forgotten about the recent flogging at the hands of the University of Alberta Golden Bears, so look for the team to make amends and be prepared to battle after the layoff.
