Man B-ballin’

By Emma Cutfield

After fighting through multiple injuries, the Dinos men’s basketball squad hoped for a good result out of the Fri., Nov. 5 game versus the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. True as the adage:

Payback’s a… hard bullet to take! UBC stole the night with a 69-52 victory avenging last season’s encounter in which the Dino’s took the glory of the conference finals. The Dinos shot a mere 28 per cent accuracy (16/58 shots), with fifth-year player Surinder Grewal shooting a team high of 20 points. He was the only Dino to hit for double digits.

Perhaps three T-Birds breaking into a plus ten status made the difference. This defeat maintains UBC as the Dinos’ biggest competition in the Canada West.

Two days later, the Dinos couldn’t shrug the loss and came up short against the University of Victoria Vikes with a close 64-74 loss. Brendan Groat led the team hitting 14 points . Rookie Sandy Brar added 13 of his own during the Sun., Nov. 7 match-up.

With a heavy force of returning players, the Dinos should be able to bring experience and know how into this weekend’s matches against some American competition. Our men travel to Bozeman, Montana on Wed., Nov. 10.

The first of two exhibition games versus Division I NCAA teams is Thu., Nov. 11 as the Dino’s face up against the Montana State University Bobcats. Friday, Nov. 12 gives the Dinos a chance to catch some glory against the Brigham Young University Cougars. Let’s hope we give them something to roar about.
