Club me ’till I’m weeker

If you’ve been wondering what all those booths in the MacEwan Students Centre courtyard are about, here is your enlightenment. It’s the second installment of Clubs Week this school year, an event organized by the Students’ Union Clubs Committee.


“It’s a chance for clubs to demonstrate their flair, recruit students at large, and generally show that they’re having a good time,” said Clubs Committee chair Jonathan Griffith.


In the past, the winter Clubs Week run has been a poor cousin to the fall semester run, as there have been fewer new students for clubs to recruit, and fewer clubs putting up booths.


This winter has been different, as both courtyards in MacEwan Students Centre are full of booths representing clubs from Rock for a Cause to the Campus Conservatives, and turnout has been better than expected.


“I think the executives this year are especially committed,” said Griffith. “They’re doing a great job.


Student response has been positive. Second-year Sociology student Jaime Morgan is one happy customer.


“It’s a good chance to meet a lot of different people on campus,” he said.


The clubs committee estimates that each participating club recruited about 10 new members.
