Editor, the Gauntlet:
I was very pleased to be able to attend President Fox’s talk at the Rosza Centre last Thursday, and wish to commend the university and all those involved in organising such an event for their efforts. It is definitely a good way to enhance one’s education, and, as a Latin American Studies Major, this was a great opportunity to hear a world leader from the area on which my studies focus.
However, I do have what is perhaps a minor quibble to air. Throughout much of Mexican President Fox’s talk, our university president sat with his elbows on the table, chin propped in hands, thus watching the proceedings. To me, this displayed (or appeared to) a distinct lack of respect, adherence to protocol and manners on what was, after all, a fairly prestigious occasion. It is also not a good example to set for our “future world leaders.”
Or, am I the only one whose mother ever said: “Get your elbows off the table!”?
