Massive Attack, 100th Window

By Myke Atkinson

Possibly releasing the most anticipated CD this year, Massive Attack have constantly been a cutting-edge act. And simply put: this album is brilliant.

While many critics are complaining about the disc, saying “it’s not multiethnic enough,” or “white boys can’t do trip hop,” this is just a display of reviewer laziness. Bridging the gap between ambience and rhythm, 100th Window takes Massive Attack’s progression of their genre into new territory. Where writers criticize the fact the album was written solely by white member 3D, I’m sure that many of them will drop their complaints when they put the album on their top-ten lists for the year.

Had this disc been released under 3D’s name, it would have recieved all the blessings of Massive Attack. Why can’t people just forget the name and listen to the music?
