With week six of soccer action coming to a close, the Dinos men stand in fifth place with only two wins under their belt. The second win came Fri., Oct. 15, courtesy of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, again. The Huskies’ Jordan Schidlowsky scored first at the 22 minute mark, leaving the Dinos to take… Continue reading Soccer and snow?

The University of Calgary men’s soccer team is looking for a few good men. Well, maybe just one. Head Coach Andy Gibbs is choosing a new captain this week and he’s looking for more than just a good player. “Maradonna’s a good player–but would you follow Maradonna? No, he’s an idiot,” said Gibbs in jest.… Continue reading Young and manly, but leaderless

The Dinos men’s basketball team was disappointedly eliminated from playoffs Feb. 18-20. The 2004 Canada West Champion Dinos lost to the University of Alberta Golden Bears in a best-of-three Mountain Division semi-final. After defeating the Bears 78-76 on Friday, the Dinos were trounced 79-69 and 86-68 on Saturday and Sunday respectively. This is the third… Continue reading Dinos miss golden opportunity

The Dinos men’s basketball team traveled far and away to the University of Alberta Dec. 3-4, hoping to take a pair of wins from the Golden Bears. However, the men ended up playing fair and shared the wins with the Bears instead. The Bears took the win on Friday with a score of 82-76, and… Continue reading Basketballers make narrow escape

Talent With fewer newcomers than last year, this team was still on the young side. However, they didn’t lack talent. They had many consistent contributors who shone on some days and blended in on others. The stats from the regular season didn’t show this team’s true potential. Effort Scrappy, indeed. That shows heart. When they… Continue reading Report Card: Men’s Soccer

This final week of regular season soccer competition was full of Pronghorns and Pandas and Dinos, oh my! A Pronghorn, more commonly called an antelope, uses its sharp vision to see danger and its superior agility to run away from it. The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns were ecologically disappointing this past weekend. They neither saw… Continue reading Thank the Lord we’re hosting

The men’s soccer game on Sat., Sept. 25 against the University of British Columbia T-Birds was “eerily similar” to previous games this season. The Dinos must like it from behind, because they spent most of the game catching up to the T-Birds. The first goal came from a blatantly offside Luke Sandilands of UBC. The… Continue reading Soccersaurs settle for a tie

This past weekend played out like a daytime soap opera for the Dinos men’s soccer team. Their first regular season game, on Sat., Sept. 18 against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, was entertaining and full of drama with bad acting from the Huskies that wouldn’t even win a “Soapie” award. Huskies’ keeper Jonathon Neufeld was… Continue reading Lovers or fighters?

Talent Short answer: the talent is raw. With a plethora of rookies suiting up this season, the Dinos had many guys who could do a lot with the ball–just not at this level quite yet. Flashes of brilliance from youngsters like keeper Rick Urbanczyk and co-captain Adam MacDonald, among others, offer promise for the future,… Continue reading Report card: Men’s Soccer

The Dinos men’s soccer team can’t seem to win for trying. On a chilly afternoon, the University of Victoria Vikes bared the brisk winter-like temperatures here in Calgary to beat the Dinos men 5-1 Sun., Oct. 24. With a delayed game due to snow on the field and a sparse gathering of fans, the men… Continue reading A losing weekend
